If the Commercial club could induce Mr. Bush to spend a week in La Grande and deliver talks nbout the pleasantness of getting bnck to nature the Cove country would be flooded with La Grande people beg ging to milk the cow and raiRe the corn. Jt was quite natural for a bad check artist in La Grande to cast the blame on a bank cashier in Idaho. But our experience has been that cashiers do not mark "not paid for want of funds," unless our bank account in that bank is fundless. Mrs. Carl Rowe is getting just and proper recognition for her ability as an artist in the handsome pictures of Wallowa county scenery which will adorn the Oregon building at San Francisco. John Mars will assist in bringing back the old business days when the buzz and rattle of his rock crusher is heard. The sound in the ear has a fine effect upon the brain. It is the simple narrative of a poor Italian's love for a girl of his .race, his coming to America, his subsequent marriage and the burning paternal love for his little baby. .. ; Beppo (Mr. Beban) toils hard to make enough money to bring his sweetheart -to this country. A baby is born, but is stricken with illness which the doctors declare will prove fatal unless thwarted by the use of pa-sterurized milk. r On his way home with money to buy the milk, Beppo is robbed by thugs. He puts up a fight and 1s ar rested. Suddenly he sees the ward boss riding an automooiie. A plea for assistance is .ignored and Beppo is sent to jail. When he is released he finds that his baby has died. Swearing vengeance upon the ward boss, who mhe blames for the baby's death, the Italian awaits his chance. It comes when the boss' infant is stricken with brain fever. Beppo gains entrance to the home and is about to dash the baby's brains out , when the tiny hand moving reminds 'h;. f u;. ... .i .... j it:, i i ...iii vi ins vwn ucau Bull.
