Baker,' Jan. 16. According to in formation received by Sheriff Prico Anderson yesterday, the bondsmen of Rube Chandler are to give him up to the authorities.. Chandler is out on $1000 bail awaiting trial at the next term of circuit court on an indictment charging assault and battery. This indictment grew out of the trouble at Haines last October, when an attempt was made to "beat up" Marshal Davis. Chandler's bondsmen phoned yes terday that they would surrender him and were informed that ; thoy would have to deliver him to the sheriff here. . He has been in Ln Grande and it was expected that offi cers from that -place would arrive with him yesterday but they did not get here, so possibly Chandler could not be located at once. ' ; Baker.Jatui. of 'financing a Baker county exhibit was the subject of "a lengthy discussion at the Commercial, club last evening by some of the members of the present board, members of the old board and other business men of the city. The upshot of the meeting was the ap pointment of Fred Phillips as chair man of a; committee to take up the matter of soliciting funds the chair man to appoint his own assistants, j ' Arrangements were made ' at once by auto owners present to take their madhines and start out Monday to visit as many portions of the' county as possible and see' the people who will -be directly interested and ascer tain if they are willing to subscribe to the exhibit fund.' Many ranchers 'and fruit ' growers .who are directly interested and who will be directly benefitted by the exhibit, have already signified ' their willingness to help finance it, and it is believed that con siderable of the ' necessary amount can be raised from this source.- , 1 The . general ' expression of those present was that this project should be financed so far as possible outside the city, as it now looks like the burden' of financing the county fair will fall on the club, and the busi . ness men of the city have been over 'wtorked on subscriptions. ' It was the j prevailing opinion that ttie expense i should be borne by those who will be benefitted and those will be the ones the committee members will endeavor to see.
