Thongh the extremely cold weather seems to have ended, a large percent of the water pipes in the city are frozen, and there seems to be no im mediate prospect of obtaining relief. A few of the mains have been thawed out, by having the steam from a traction - engine, forced into the hy drants, but in one or two instance!, even this failed to thaw them. On account of the small pipes that ex tend to the residences, freezing many people are getting water from the river. A great many people from Wal lowa, attended the dance at Evans. New Year's eve. the total Bomber probably being about fifty. !i A large crowd attended both the Christmas and New Year's dances at Wallowa. The high school class debating BUSINESS IS GOOD . . The school rep. reseinted will be Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa. The privilege of select ing a question to debate upon, will be left to Wallowa, subject to the ap proval of the other two schools. The senior class play, "Brookdale farm," will be the first class play to be staged, probably some time in February, and the other classes will give their plays, later on. The class plays were very successful last year, both financially and also in the way they were presented.
