Five years ago Mr. Jackson, presi dent of the Southwestern Lumlter Company, of Kansas City, began buy ing Wallowa County timber. G. E. Hayden has been his field represent ative. , Last year Mr. Jackson concluded to start, cutting. Bui he wanted to get some of the reserve timber. He applied to have it cruised and adver tised, and the sale was act for June 15. Mr. Jackson was the only bid der. He got the pine timber at $2.5t a thousand. While the Government was pre paring for the sale of tho reserve timber Mr. Jackson and Mr. Hay den made a trade with the Palmei company for the latter' acreage in the reserve district At the sumo timo .-cs.idents of En terprise secured tho riirht-of-wnv from tho city to tho timber on the north, about 12 miles. They also have pledged to give the East Oregon company a mill site, and have sub scribed to $10,000 of the corpora tion's stock.
