La Grande, playing against Cove without a catcher, lost 9 to 8. The game stood five all at the end of the fifth and in the ninth it was the same. La Grande scored tnree in the last canto and the Cove players came to hat with a husky series of swats and put four over the plate winning for the cherry pickers. A good crowd of Cove people were out on their lot to see the defeat. Pidcock couldn't show up behind the bat andl Speed Humph rey who has never caught a game in his life, went in as backstop. He went pretty fine too, until the fourth when a bad curve broke one finger, Slate, who had been pitching, went behind the bag and Mclnnis went on the mound. There were just nine uniforms of a La Grande colprs in Ccve for the day. Geddes and John son were Cove battery men. North Powder turned in her tracks end defeated Imbler 7 to 2. The game yas played at North Powder and was a good brand! of baseball. At Union, Elgin fell from one thou sand percent when Union hung defeat, on the Indians by a decisive score. Next Sunday Elgin, and Ln Grande mix on the local lot. FOR RENT Furnished five room, modern cottage, 2104 Second. Tele phone Red 3411. ' 5-23-tf. FOR RENT Furnished housekeeping rooms close in.
