Evelyn Pritchard and Her Royal Hawaiian Troupe at the Arcade. Tomorrow, Friday, matinee and evening will mark one of the biggest performances ever given in this city, when Evelyn Pritchard and ; her troupe of Royal Hawaiian Singers end musicians will give their initial show at the Arcade theater. Man ager Gurdinier at an enormous ex pense has been able to secure this troupe of vaudevillians for Friday and Saturday of this week and from reports of the biggest vaudeville houses East, and West, a rare treat is promised the patrons of the Arcade theater. Miss Pribchard, an American girl, possessed of both looks and talent, renders successfully some soprano solos and with her quartet of Hawaiian singers forms a beautiful ensemble in their several quartet and quintet numbers. The crowning feature of the act is the Original Hula Hula dance by Miss Pritchard and company, and is a true rendition of the dance as done by the natives of Hawaii. For . the benefit of the L. D. S, church members it may be said here, that the Hawaiian quartet are mem bers of that church and have suc cessfully sung in the tabernacles of the leading towns through Utah, in cluding Salt Lake City. Of nil the British regiments the Welsh fuslleeis. have the most curious army toast. It fornix purt of the cere mony of the grand dinner given annu ally on St. David's day. After tho din ner the drum major, accompanied by the goat, the mascot of the fiislleers, bedecked with rosettes of red and blue ribbon, ma relies around the table, car rying a plate of lee ka. Every officer or guest who has never eaten one beforB Is obliged to do so. standing on his chair with one foot on tho table, while the drummers heat a roll behind bis chair. He Is then considered u true Welshman. All the toasts are coupled with the name of St. David. It is in much this way that the toast with hlghlund honors is drunk. Each guest stands with one foot on his chnlr and one ou the table and the pipers, a-plp-Ing, parade the room. (FOLEY TAYI FOLEY ! HOTEL 1 AA1 HOTEL "Inn" and "Hotel." The Saxon word "inn." taken In Its present sense, was probably in use be fore the ccnqiiest. whereas the purely French word "hotel." as generally ap plied to "an Inn of style and preten sion." dates only from about the time when olllcers of the British army o( occupation returned from Paris with enthusiastic accounts of Meurlce's and a dozen other bostelrles of the Rue de Rlvoll and the Hue St. Honore widen quite threw the humbler accommoda tion offered by the average British Inn of that period into the shade. At -tin commencement of the nineteenth cen tury Frenchmen f taught the London Innkeeper the science of hotel keeping, before the beginning of the twentieth the Englishman bad begun to return the compliment. Conntry Life. (. ; The Palm Tree of Capri. I knew a palm tree upon Capri. It stood In select society of shining Dg leaves and lustrous oleanders. It over bung the balcony and so looked, far overlennlng, down upon the blue Medi terranean. Through the dream mists of southern Italian noons It looked up the broad bay .of Naples and saw vague VesuvliK melting away, or:at sunset the Isles f the Sirens, or in the full May moonlight the oranges of .Sor rento And from the Sorrento where T.isso was horn It looked across to pleasani I'osllippo. where Vergil- is burled, anil to stately Isehia. The piilm of Capri saw all that was fairest and must famous in the bay of Naples.--iJcoruo William Curtis. ' ' Attention Odd Fellows and Rebckahs.
