Case Involving Wallowa County High
School Revived.

Attorneys Wallace G. Trill, of Wal
lowa, and A. W. Schaupp, of Joseph,
were in the city Saturday 'conferring
with Attorneys Cochran & Eberhard
regarding the brief of Wallowa coun-,
ty in the supreme court in the case
known as the "Wallowa county high
school case." . The attorneys men-j
tioned were retained by the county
court ' of , Wallowa county last
Summer when the district attorney I
fel Inclined to submit without argu-'
ment the case involving the right of
the county to retain posession of the
county high school and the grounds !
furnished the county on which to.
build the institution after the county
institution of learning had been dis
continued. Judge Anderson, of Bak
er, sitting for Judge Knowles, decid
ed in favor of the county on the brief
furnished by the special counsel and
they are now preparing for the final
round on the appeal to the higher
court. County Attorney Corkins ap
pears with the special counsel on the
appeal. - ;

Hawkins and Archie Mitchell have
plans for their new barn which is to
be 36x60. They will begin con
struction as soon as they have finished
their spring seeding. The barn is to
be of the gamble roof style.
Joseph and Archibald Geddes were
in this neighborhood the first part of
the week. They are representing
the Beneficial Life insurance com
pany. -
Quite a number of Imbler people
wore over here last Sunday, enjoying
Easter with the young people here.
AH of them took a stroll on the
mountain side and had a very merry
time.
Mrs. Clara Caldwick and Messrs
John and Arthur Woodell of the
Sandridge were entertained -at the
home of Mr. and Irs. Joe Leak
Easter Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Larson of
La Grande, and Mr. Olson of Logan,
Utah, were guests of E. L." Whiting
on Easter day.
Pearl Price of Portland, came to
this section last Sunday and will be
the guest of her sister, Mrs. Gibbons
for some time.
The little son of Mr and Mrs. Feik
is greatly improved after a long
siege of illness.
J. H. Millering has been engaged
the last two weeks in Fruitdale pull
ing up fruit trees in various orchards.
A traction engine has proven very
successful in this work.
Wood Notice.
Notice is hereby given that the Dis
trict School Board of School District
No. One of Union County, Oregon,
will receive up to 7:30 o'clock P. M.,
of April 24th, 1914, sealed bids for
furnishing said School District No.
One with 500 cords of four foot split
yellow pine, Tamarac and red fir
wood, said wood to be cut while green
and not later than June 1, 1914, free
from large knots and acceptable to
said school board.
Said wood to be delivered, 300 cords
at High School Building, 100 cords at
Fourth Ward School nd 100 corads at
Riverside School, and to be corded up
neatly and closely where directed by
the Board. One hundred cords to be
delivered by July 1, and all on or be
fore September 1st, 1914. Bids to be
left with School Clerk.
Board reserves the right to regect
any or all bids.

Kelly's Body Passes Through.
The body of Bert Kelly, former
champion broncho buster of the world
and hero of two Round-ups, arrived
in Oregon from Phoenix, . Arizona,
where death by tuberculosis claimed
him last week. The body was accom
panied by his wife and was taken to
Walla Walla where funeral services
will be held.
