Farmers Prepare Fields for Planting
Roads in Good Shape.
Ladd Canyon Ore., March 25.
(Special) The weamei- conditions
have changed here since yesterday
morning it being quite chilly, ac
companied by a little rain and snow.
However, farmers are continuing
plowing and the various other ways
of getting the fields in condition to
sow and a few have most 'of their
garden provisions up. , The roads are
in splendid condition for this time of
the year, not being rough, only in a
very few places and it is getting to
be a common sight to see automobiles1
passing to and from Hot Lake again.
A few have branded their stock pre
paratory to taking them to the moun
tains in a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krouse and
children, who .have been spending the
winter at Portland are back here.
Mrs. Bell Huntley of La Grande and
sister, Mrs. Albert Evanson ,of
Grant's Pass, came out on the Baker
local from La Grande last Friday and
visited until Sunday with their
mother, Mrs. Marie Larm. This train
has been a source of pleasure, to a
good many who like to come out here,
as it makes two stops when requested:
one at Lone Tree station, a distance of
something like a mile and a half from
Ladd Canyon and the other at Hot
Lake, a distance of three miles. Lee
Furgason, and two sons, Henry and
Oscar Furgason recently came down
from Baker and visited at the home
of Alec Furgason their son and
brother respectfully, the boys going
on to Elgin with ,some horses, where
they will conduct a splendid farm be
longing to Mr. Furgason.
John, (or more commonly known as
Jack) McCanley was able to make,
his first trip away from home last
Saturday after being very sick with
phneumonia for a period of some-
thting like two months.
Miss Ruth Peebler has been quite ill
since last Sunday, from an unknown
cause.
