One of the best attended and most enthusiastic conventions ever held in the town was that held in the Odd Fel lows hall Monday evening for the pur pose of nominating four councilmen and for tho discussion cf needed im provements for the town, says tnc Joseph Harald. The meec'.i;r was well represented by ladies. Mayor Fred McCully presided as chairman anil A. K. Parkoi as seore j tary of the conve ition. A number of tulKi were made vo l lating to the excellent administration i of the city's affairs by tho old counril and expressing the hopj that all of the old councilmen whoss term-i expire at this time would conclude to accept an other nomination. With this end in : view all three of them, Wes Duncan, j A. J. Richardson and Nate T ryop, were re-nominated a,.d Lou Kna'-oer as the fourth councilman.' Mr. Rich ardson not wishing to ru:: attain, do-' clined the non.ination and Glenn Les lie was nominated. These four wcie declarer! the unan imous choice of the convention and Duncan, Kriapper and Leslie were nominated for two years and Tryon for one year, The hold-over council men are L. E. . Caviness and M. 0. Brooke. The mayor and all of the other city officials are hold-overs The -matter of amending the char ter so as to allow the council more latitude in expending money for need ed improvements was discussed at length. Since it will require a spe cial election to adjust this matter, the council was instructed to have the necessary amendments prepared, to :ie voted upon in the near future. The matter of re-organizing our commercial club was also discussed and in order to start the ball rolling, the chairman appointed as a commit tee to make the necessary arrange ments and call a meeting within a few days Prof. Coe, L. Knapper and F. H. Gaulke. With great enthusiasm the coming term of the Willamette University summer school was discussed and ar rangements will be commenced at once for the entertainment and ac commodation of the faculty and stud ents. The necessary financial assist ance was pledged, the same as last year, and as a committee to look after this part of it, the chairman ap pointed Mrs. Gaulke, Mrs. Coe and Mrs. Schaupp. A motion was made and carried that the mayor assist these ladies in these matters.
