lar in coast states. Over 90,000,000

J brought to Portland; in fact by tha
i very same interests. The Chinese.
i eggs are easily discovered, for they
'resemble the American product but
little. They are of intensely brown
color and with some showing of red
dish hue.
Not only-is the Chinese egg unin
viting to look upon, but it is of very
small size and perhaps two of them
would contain as much food as one
J, local fresh egg. Owing to the long
distance that the Chinese eggs must
be brought from rural districts with
j; their lack of up to date transporta-
tion facilities, it is quite natural that
i the supplies should come to this
country in poor condition.
J I Not are the eggs only said to be
I small, of uninvitinar appearance and
; showing a lack of freshness; but food
i ! officials of several sections have de
clared them to he unwholesome.
The matter has been taken up by
the Portland bureau and a careful ex
aml.iiition of the supplies is being

It has been reported that some of
