Monroe, of La Grande, has been se cured a the, judge of . the Baker poultry show, January 22, 23 and 24, and now all the details of the show except the fixing of the prizes for the various events have been arrang - ed. ' Entries have been coming in slowly to Secretary McAlister and until he gets some idea as to how many entries '. there will be in the different classes it will be difficult to make the prise allotments. Formal entries will close two or three days before the Show, Mr; McAlister said today that he expects there will be between 25 and 35 pens and from 50 to 75 single entries. ' Also some turkeys, geese and pet stock consist ing of rabbits and pigeons, will be shown. '''. ' "".'. Mr. Monroe will use' the compari son method of judging and there will be no score cards used. Utility birds will stand the best chances of win ning, although the usual standard will be followed to some extent and show birds will count a certain percentage in the judging. . Every bird which takes a first or second will get a blue or red ribbon in' every classification. There will also be one grand 'sweepstakes prize and numerous special prizes from the 45 to 50 premiums which have been donated with a total' value of $150. One pound of salt pork chopped very One, one pint of boiling water poured on the pork, two cupfula of agar, one cupful of molasses, one heaping tea spoonful of cloves and of cinnamon, one pound of chopped raisins, two tea spoonfuls of soda, one small teaspoon ful of baking powder and about six cupfulB of flour (enough to make II rather thick, but not too stiff). Bake slowly and be sure that It ls done be fore taking from the oven. This cake will keep for weeks if wrapped in pnrafflu paper and kept In a tin box or a covered Jar. Raisin Puffs. One-half cupful of sugar, a beaptnc tablospoanful of butter, .two eggt. a cupful of milk, two cupfuls of Sour, a cupful of raisins chopped and floured, three teaspoonfuls of baking powder. Steam In buttered cups one-half hour This makes twelve cupfuls. Sauce for puffs two cupfuls of brown sugar, two tupfuls of hot water, two table spoonfuls of butter, two tablespoon- fuls ef flour, a teaspoonful of vanilla. i Cook until thick. Because the pew brand law in Ore gon is not being generally followed in Union county the Observer again prints extracts from, the new law about filing brands. The excerpts ! from the law read j Sec. 1. That Sec. 5626 of Chapter 6, of Title of L. O. L., be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 6626, When a brand ha been recorded in any county, no other person, company or corpora tion can record the same brand, or brand similar, thereto, except with the written consent of the owner of the brand so recorded, which written consent shall be recorded with the county clerk; and it shall be the duty of all persons, firms or corporations now having brands upon the records to renew the same by oral or written request by the owner of record of said brand to the county clerk within one year from the passage of this amendment .The county clerk shall make a memorandum of such renewal with the date thereof on the margin of the record of said brand. All brands, the record of which shall not be reenwed as above provided. shall be cancelled and may be ap propriated and recorded by the per. son first applying therefor.
