of the horticultural department, will

: Lewis will present the subject of "Ir
rigation as a Factor in Fruit Produc
tion" before the horticulaural socie
ties. Prof. Potter gave an interesting
talk on "Starting in the Cattle Raising
Business" before the agricultural club
on Wednesday evening. Mr. Marshall,
a Nebraska university graduate, re
lated the advancement of the position
of the Aggie student in past few years.
Special music for the evening' was ren
dered by Mr. McGinnis.
The men of the green cap have been
busy this week hauling wood for the
1 biggest bonfire in the history of O. A.
C, which is to be set off next Friday
at the final rally before the Oregon
game. The two teams are pretty even
ly matched for what promises to be the
best game of the season. The game
will be played on the Albany grid-
iron. ' -'. ; :V

Juniors wil battle for the interclass
championship with indications point
ing strongly to the Freshmen as the
probable winners. '

V'Beat Oregon" meeting in the gym
Wednesday noon. Songs and yells were'
practiced and several stirring speeches
made by the enthusiastic students.
Henry Odeen was elected president
of the Associated Engineers by a nar
row margin over A. 0. -Mangold on
Friday afternoon of last week.. The
other officers elected were Ed Loken,
: vice president; Pete Rinearson, secre
tary; K. R, Hammersley, treasurer,
and M. C, Hays, sergeant-alarms.

Henry Odeen was unanimously elect
ed - president of the Rifle association
and Sammy Rice, captain. ' Over 250
men turned out to this meeting. : ; V
The U. of O. and O. A. C. glee club

Students Express Appreciation'
Eugene, Nov. , 9. Spontaneously
gathering to celebrate the result of the
election in which the people of the
state voted to provide $175,000 for
university buildings, the sudents of
the university paraded about the cam
pus and city, finally uniting in A mass
meeting in Villard hall. The following
resolutions were here passed unani
mously,' amid cheers and the univer
sity yell;.
"We, the students of the University
of Oregon, - in mass meeting assem
bled, do hereby express our pride in
being members of the body politic of
Oregon. We call attention to the fact
that an -understanding of the value
and -need of higher education rests
with no class or caste in Oregon, but
is diffused among the entire popula
tion, and we believe that in no state is
there a firmer foundation than this on
Which to build for the future.
"We express our admiration for the
aule and loyal service performed by
the press of the state, which was all
but a unit in clearly understanding
and effectively and truthfully present
ing the immensely Important issue at
stake.
"We regard as leaders whose noble
example we shall in our lives strive to
follow, those disinterested, energetic,
private interests to be served, and no
possible personal reward to be gained,
gave freely and liberally of their
money, their time and their enthusi-
asm with thought only of the welfare
of their state and of posterity.
"We regard as vastly significant for
the future of education in Oregon the
fact that one of the' most energetic
leaders of the campaign in behalf of
the university is a regent of the Ore
gon Agricultural college, and as still
more significant the fact that the c.ity
of Corvallis returned a handsome ma
jority in favor of the university meas
ures. We attribute this in no small
degree to the broad-mindedness and
wise patriotism of our fellow students
at the Oregon . Agricultural college,
and as students at the University of
Oregon we wish thus publicly to ex-pi-ess
our appreciation. ,
: ''We furthermore take this occasion;
of pledging to the, state of Oregon
our renewed loyalty, and of affirm
ing again our determination that in
us the people of the state shall And
the the sacrifices they have made for
higher education will redound many
fold to the public advantage." ;
The resolutions then closed with a
repetition of the well known "Oregon
pledge," by which the student dedi
'cates himself to the welfare of the
state.
