NOTICE. the city recorder to prepare a special Notice of the recorder of the city of La Grande, Oregon, of the assess ment of Improvement District No. 81 of the city of La Grande, Oregon. Notice is hereby given that the as sessment for the improvement of tho llev in block 106. Chaplin's addition, being Improvement District No. 81, of the city of La Grande, Oregon, wider the provisions of Ordinance No. 754, Rpi-i 1913. Joseph, Nov. 10 (Special)Dan Dun Dunbar died in Joseph early Saturday morning. Mr. Dunbar's father and mother were here and shipped the body to their home at Fairview, Ore. Mr. Dunbar came to Joseph last spring for his health and apparently got bet ter. He and his wife ran the electric light plant all summer and made many friends in this vicinity. .. ' While riding over the mountains from Imnaha to Joseph, Mrs. McAlex- lander was thrown from her horse, when her stirrups broke. Her chest and limbs were badly crushed by the horse fnllinc on her. Elz. Hartsoclt is getting better, after being confined to his bed for two weeks with blood poisoning in his arm. Clem and Tom Marks were out from Imnaha last week buying some purely KpH Hereford hulls to turn out on the run ire with their other cattle. C. E. Myers, manager of the Savoy hotel.- was in Joseph last week visit ing with his brother, who is stopping hero for a while. Mr. nnd Mrs. Joe Gill of Zumwalt were in town last week buying their winter's supplies and visiting friends. J. P. Rusk of La Grande was in ioseph during election on legal business. Miss Lucy F. Braden of Boise is in Joseph canvassing the town with John L. Stoddard's books of travel. C. E. Coles, representing the Rumely Machinery Co., is in town this week. RalDh Sticknev and Everett Hayes have returned from a week's trip to Portland. . Mrs. Michellod and daughter, Mrs. Grinnell, have returned to Joseph from an extended visit in Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. Hogoboom have de cided to spend the winter in California. They will leave in about two weeks. Their many friends wish them good luck, but do not like to see them leave. J. L. Mrs. Coch ran is improving. . The Cove pinochle club held their weeklv meeting at the Cottage hotel this week. Mrs. Jones carried off the first prize. ' Myrtle Houx returned from the Grande Ronde hospital, where she was operated on for appendicitis several weeks ago. She is getting along all right. This is test week in the Cove public schools. Mrs. Wesley Smith and Emma Hery f ord made a short visit to North Pow der last week. . The class of 1915 of Cove high schol held their annual election Wrd- nesday of this week. The officers for the ensuing year are: President, Cas sie Kelley; vice president, Vera Pease; secretary-treasurer, Phil Conklin. The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Deborde was held at the family residence last Friday afternoon. Rev. Smith of the Adventist church in Union preached the funeral sermon. The pall bearers were Hy Lieursense, Marvin McDan- nel, Frank Smith, Joe Goyette, Dave Llovd and Mr. Hallmark. The body was interred in the Cove cemetery. B. P. O. E.
