(Spe cial) The high south wind of Mon day and yesterday has blown down several .telephone poles, causing the telephone service in this dis trict to be entirely out of commission today. ' , Quito a good many or the parents of the neighborhood met at the school house last Friday and ofund the good acquaintance of the teacher, Mr. Hunt. Mrs., F. S. Ivanhoe, the county school superintendent, who was present. Had it not been for the ill weather and so much fall work all of , the parents would very likely have been in attend ance. The Misses Minnie, Gladys and Ruth Drumsmith, little daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Drumsmith, enter tained the younger folks of the neigh borhood hallowe'en evening at their home. Each youngster had his own taffy to pull and everything was quite stuck up with candy, but they had one of the best times of their lives and en joyed the evening spent . with the young hostesses. , Dick Peebler has three carpenters at work on his new barn, which will b .quite a good sized structure when completed. ON THE BRINK OF NIAGARA. Three Hours of Peril, but He Still Clutched His Knife. On the afternoon of June 1. 1872. an old painter named William McCui lough while painting the bridge above Niagara .falls between the first and second Sister Islands fell Into the rap ids. Instantly he was swept furiously toward the cataract, but whirled Into lesser waves, so that he struck against and seized a ruck not far above the brink. Hundreds quickly gathered on the shore and watched, nil eager to help, but Ignorant what to do.
