Deer Hunters Around Union Have Met With Great Success. : Union, Nov. 3. - (Special) The young men of the Union hiph school pave a halowe'en social at Yorprason hall and invited the high school and faculty. ..The refreshments consisting of pumpkin pie, gingerbread, sand wiches and hot cocoa were served by the boys who made fine waiters. The evening's amusements consisted of hal- lowe'en games and dancing. The fac ulty was tried out at . who was the fleetest of foot and the honors fell to Miss Pierce with Superintendent Smith a close second. Mr. Johnson was in such a hurry that he tripped over him self and had a soft fall. Mr. Arnt raced against time as he came in tardy and came out best with father time. A large crowd enjoyed the hospitality of the young men and wished that hal lowe'en came oftener than once a year. Mrs. Forstrom, mother of the For strom Brothers, has. gone to Boston to visit her daughter, who lives in that city. She will be gone for some time. Carl Forstrom is spending most ot his time at Uoth Powder these days and is getting his store at that place rendy to take care of a hie business. Wo hope he will locate one of hi3 branch stores here. Mr. Forstrom was in business in Union for some years and it, was with regret that his pat rons saw him sell out. We would wel come him in our midst once more in the mercantile business. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McLane of Joseph, died recently. Mrs. McLane was Miss May Hursh, and Union was her home for a Jong time before her marriage. The par ents have the sympathy of their many friends here, in their sad' bereave ment. Mrs, Langford, who has been sick for several months, is very low and is not expected to live at present. Crandpa Coffinburv is on the sick list again. The cold weather does not seem to agree with the old gen tleman. Miss Stellina MutvhilT returned on Sunday night from a visit to her sister, Mrs. Alva Peters, who lives on a farm west of North Powder. A Mr. White, from Boise, is in Un ion getting up a lyceum course. He advertises fine lectures and reports meeting with flattering success. We hone he will make it a go. Miss Dorothy Townlcy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Townley was op crated on. last week for appendicitis at the La Grande hospital. She is re ported as doing nicely and, will soon be around again. Mi'i Deering and son, Ray, have bone out to do their fall plowing on the Somp Carrol farm. , It will take them for some time as they will have about two hundred acres to plow. Deer hunters have returned and re port that they had good success and 'brought, bnck lots of venison. A Scene from "me Wolf, Coming to me Arcade Novemoer 14th. Next Friday evening ut the Arcade promises to be a notable event, the oc casion being the presentation in this city of "The Wolf" the play that set all Chicago talking for more than six months, during its run in that city at the Chicago Opera house, and also held New York spellbound for nearly a year at the Lyric theatre. "The Wolf" is from the pen of Eu gene Walter, author if several dra mas, but it is so different from the usual run of plays that it leaves a distinct impression of its own on the mind of the spectator. The story and theme are new. There is an abundunce of bright dialogue, droll humor, and the pathos and sentiment of the play arc not of the artificial sort. The stage settings are remarkably elabor ate and many of the scenes are so well mnnnged ns to receive hearty ap plause. The engagement of "The Wolf" promises to be a record breaker.
