V , k This methiid. will lie. found In prne tlce to explain many pictures which nt tlrst sVem very astonishing. To make a "vision fake" arrange a little scene, such ns a bare, room with an empty hearth', witli your model sitting list lessly in the foreground. Make your first exposure on this scene, being care ful to mark out on the ground glass screen the space Into which the vision must fall. . A dafk curtain or dark woodwork should occupy this space In the .first picture. Now procure a sheet of dead black paper, mount it evenly upon stiff card and with a little Chinese white sketch out an approprl ate ylslon. . If you cannot dc this yourself get an artist friend to help you, but see that tlie sketch Is placed lu the correct spot I. e., the spot which you have urranged fot It to occupy In the finish ed picture. When the sketch is finish ed set It up before the camera, focus and see that it falls within the renuh ed boundary upon the screen. - Then expose again the plate which has al ready done duty aud if no miscalcula tions have been made an interesting "vision" picture will result . The gbost "fake" may be made in exactly the same way, only In tills case on appropriate scene would be a deserted churchyard, with your model posing In an awestruck attitude be side a tomb- In all photographs of this kind the reader should bear in mind that a dead black background does not appreciably affect the sensl tized plate, but a sbow plate should be used "whenever this is possible, as by this means any slight tendency to "fog" will be obviated. One of the faults of the Inexperi enced doubles player which Is most persistent is standing still. This In one of those necessities In doubles that are often overlooked. But no partner can . do justice , to bis team unless he moves after every shot to the cen ter of the tingle of the return. In other words, both men must constantly change their positions, moving back and forth toward oue side or tbe other, according to where they have sent the ball. If the net man has volleyed deep into the right hand corner both play ers move, across to the ' right. The right hand player thereby protects the shot down his own side line, and tbe left hand player prhtects tbe cross court shot down the central diagonal of the court Outing. , : Lubricant For Aluminium. Many machinists, especially those employed in the motor engineering In dustry, nre frequently called upon to work In nlumiuium. To Satisfactorily do this work various lubricants have been tried, which, however, owing toil their volatility, are of little use. A suitable lubricant is tallow or cob bler's wax. This latter does not dis solve quickly and consequently does not flow as freely us the volatile oils. American .Machinist. . Going On.
