feraska capitalist, is in La Grande to
- day. Wtih him is his nephew, A. J.
Winters, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and
the two visitors are being shown the
company holdings in the valley by F.
A. Harmon, general manager of the
company with headquarters at Baker.
The holdings include the company's
power conveying lines that belt the
valley and considerable ranch land in
the heart of the valley, where electri
cal pump irrigation; has been expert
isented with by the company. '
Popular Painter Returns.
' ' E. H. Betty, a well known young
man .' of this city, returned Tuesday
with his wife, from Chillicothe, Mo.
Mr. Betty is head painter for the O.
W. here and has been a resident of La
Grande for two years. He recently
purchased a home on Oak avenue and

Fancy Price Likely to Be Paid for
Choice Fair Grounds Boxes.
Next Saturday night the annual
auction sale of box seats at the fair
grounds building will be put on at
some convenient open air spot down
town. The entire list of boxes will
be sold at the best possible figures
and if last years heated bidding re
sults, which is expected, some fancy
prices indeed will bo paid for the best
boxes. It was quick work to dispose
of the boxes last year, and the same
will probably be the case this year.
The auction takes place at 8 o'clock
sharp and following that the La
Grande' bund' is going to give an extra
ordinary program. The festivities will
take place at the United States Na
tional bank building corner, and it is
to be a gala event There will be no
mid-week concert, it having been post
poned until Saturday evening.

handle the scenery alone at the per
formances next Monday and Tuesday

ening in this city and the attendance
was large from all parts of Wallowa

shortly for Texas where they will re
side in the future.
