Sept. 1 (Special) Both schools open Monday Septem ber 1. 1 The teachers of the public schools will be Max Wilson of Joseph, Miss Johns, of Wlllowa, Miss Lyie Murray of Iowa, Miss Mabel Murray of Iowa, Eva - Falconer and Janett Woolcerodt of this place. There has been a great improvement in the play grounds as weir as the school build ings. On the play ground has been erected swimrs. merry-go-rounds, ten nis court and other means of amuse ments, while inside of the building has been repapered with solid color ed paper. Floors have been painted, doors, ' windows and scats varnished so everything looks comfortable, as well as attractive. The high school opens with Charles A. Montnndon as principal, Misses Dobin and Huff will hold their old positions, while Mr. Glascow will take the place Mr. How ard held last year. This will be the first attempt of Enterprise with the high school, as heretofore it has been a county high school. -' -A special meeting of the library board was called Saturday evening for the purpose of receiving bids on the new Carnegie library , building, the members of the board present were, Dr. Hocket, president; Mrs. J. P. Sanders, secretary; G. W. Hiatt; Mrs. Knapp, Mrs.1 Burnbugh. v Before opening the bids Dr. Hocket asked which they thought best in the build ing brick or stone, aB some had hereto fore mentioned it would be best to use stone as it was a home product The architect advised the board to use brick as it would look so much better, so it was moved and carried that it would" be built of brick with stone trimming. ' - The brick will cost $600 and will be shipped from La Grande. It was then moved by G. W. Hiatt that the bids be ODened. and seconded by Mrs. Knapp, waa carried. There were five bids: John Oberg's being received at $4,125. This does not Include light ing or heating. A contract was then drawn up with Mr. Oberg and signed by the board. J. M. Scholl, who was principal of tha last half of the public school last year has returned after being in Wis durinflr vacation. He says he liked the country so well he decided to return and join the band of home steaders and teach again this winter if he can get a school near his home stead. M He is now helping on the school L-uilding here. Miss Fannie Broton has been hired to teach at Alder this coming school year.
