What was at first reported to be a
daylight holdup yesterday, afternoon,
developod on investigation! the police
say, into a; brawl in which soma of
the participants were' - Intoxicated.
Three of the four included in the batch
arrested late yesterday afternoon,
were arraigned today and fined for
disordariy conduct. ' Frank Dempsey
was the man who claimed to have been
robbed but if the police have it right,
there was no robbery about it. Pete
iGrurd, Prank Harrington and a stran
ger hid beea loafing about the shad
ed spots near the stockyards when
Dempnisy is said to have approiiched
them and made indecent actions in
view of some . passing ladies. The
group upbraided him . they say, and
a-fight started. None were serious
ly hurt and today ; Harrington was
fined $2.50, Girard the same, the
stranger released and Dempsey fined
$15. A man named Brown, Jack
Whiting and a man, named Clancey,
were also arraigned today on disord
erly charges and of the entire group,
Brown and Whiting paid fines. The
others are headed for the street department.

of Boy Scouts to Beaver creek. The
boys will remain for. some days in
charge of OreHes Damon. They are
now located near the Ed Propek cabin
and have the use of a telephone should
they becom elonesome. Two days
were required to reach camp and the
boys were weary and foot sore but a
few hours' camp pitching and work In
the pines brought new life to their
weary feet and now they are the hap
piest crowd alive. Fish are plentiful
and this, with few good meals, is all
that is required to make a healthy boy
happy.; ...

Poindexter Is Angry. -.
Washington, Aug. 28. Speaking to
question of personal privilege, Senator
Poindexter in the senate today de
clared that a Seattle newspaper had
criminally libelled him by printing
charges that he obtained government
position for 11 of his relatives. Poin
dexter admitted getting a tplace for
his brother in the senate folding room,
but declared that he had not connec
tion in securing a position for the
five others named and that he had no
knowledge of any sort about the
ether five. .
"I-Wont Work" is a wrong appela
tion to apply on at least one member
of the Industrial Workers of the World
crowd. Henry Hill that at least is
the name he gives was arrested yes
terday for resisting an officer and got
several days' taste of street employ
ment. He had put up a nasty fight
when arrested; is a big burly fellow
and it was generally admitted that
Master of Prisoners Chas. Stacey,
would have a big joB on his hands if
he got Mr. I. W. W. to do anything
on the street. ,,The very reverse oc
curred however, for Hill has been a
model prisoner and does more work in
an hour than, the average prisoner in
a half day. He goes alone to his
meals now and plods along with the
gravel shovel regardless, of overseer
or no overseer.
