Three carloads of beef material and two of mutton stuff comprised the offeringa at the yards yesterday, the totals being 71 cattle and 612 sheep, and as a consequence of the smalTrun the day was an uneventful one in the market. The sheep brought fn were disposed of early in the day and the prices paid gave evidence of a fairly steady tone in the market on mutton stuff. . The best weathers turned over . went at $4.25, the current top quotation, and the day's sales included the transfer of a bunch of 134 good grade lambs at $5.25. Off -grade mutton material sold at lower figures.. In the cattle section only one small transaction was reported early in the day, the sale of a dozen prime steer? averaging 1288 pounds in weight at $8.35, the high quotation for the week to date. Heavier offerings of the same grade of stock could undoubtedly have been disposed of at the same figures. Fancy veal, stock was said to be readily movable at $8 to $9. In the absence of trade there were not developments in the hog market, but dealers reported nothing to indi cate any weakness in that line and quoted $9 to $9.30 on the best finish ed light weights. Tho general' impres sion seems to be that the market on pork stock will hold up well through out the fall months. Banana days are popular with the masses; witnesseth the stiff sale of bananas today. In the minds of the good wife it would not be amiss to have one of these banana days every month. It. would stimulate the trade, provide the common mortal with at least one fine day's feeding on ba nanas at very nominal prices, and very probably whet the business up generally. The demand today from consumers was brisk and dealers sold "oodles" of bananas at the 25 cent rate, a drop of 15 cents on the dozen 1 from the standard price.
