A delightful dinner was served and from every phase the meeting was. a splendid one. At Union Today. Mr. Sykes is in Union today where a meeting is in progress, and E. S. Norrifi of this city, is one of those in attendance. Next Saturday the farm . ers meet at Cove and again Mr. Sykes and probably President Swift will be in attendance. Brakeman's Assailant Captured. Word i has been received -here that . the hobo who stabbed Brakeman Kra mer Monday night, has been captured at Castle Rock. Kramer, who was substituting on eastbound No. 12 for Jack Allison, was stabbed just over the heart and the kii'f? pierced the left lung. The train had stopepd on account of engine troubles and .the brakeman had gone forward. He no ticed a hobo on the tank and ordered him off. As lie jumped off, the man : lunged at. Kramer with a knife and then made a getaway. The incident occurred between Portland and Hood River. Kramer was taken to the lat- : ter city and is said, to be in a serious condition. The visit of Tom O'Hara, scout for the Cincinnati team, to Walla Walla ; has resulted in negotiations by the major league club for the purchase of Fitchner, ex-Spud speed artist, and ' a deal is now pendingv Fitchner went to North Yakima when the La Grande team trew up.
