The Junior class of the high school
gave their claaa play at the electric
theatre last week. The title of the
play was "All a Mistake." It waa a
laughable farce all tile way through.
The house waa crowded and all business,

Presbytery Report.
Union, Oregon April 14. The
Presbytery of Grande Rcid met In
the Presbyterian church Tuesday,
evening. There were twelve minis
ters and live elders In attendance,
opening sermon was preached by
f.ev. Everet tmru of Elgin by re
quest of the retiring moderator. Rev.
C. C. Babbldge of Burns who waa un
able to be present.
Rev. Wm. Baird of Baker waa
elected moderator.
The usual committees were - ap
pointed and Wednesday was a busy
day. Some dlsseotlon had arisen
in the Pine Valley church and a del
egation came to present their griev
ances to the Presbytery. A commis
sion consisting of Rev. Wm. Baird.
Rev. A. O. Lane, D. D., and Dr. J. W.
Huff was appointed to visit the
church Investigate conditions and en
deavor to bring about an amicable
adjustment of difficulties.
Rev. A. R. Garrlck of Xyssa waa
elected commissioner to the general
assembly on the part ot the ministry
and G. F. Smith of Elgin on the part
of the Eldership.
The Woman's Presbyterial 'Mission
ary society held Its aesslona In the
Methodist church. There was full at
tendance and an excellent program.
On Wednesday evening Rev. A. G.
Lane of La Grande gave a most im
pressive address on the subject "The
True Spirit of Missions." j
The . following resolution was
adopted:
Be It resolved that the Presbytery
of Grande Ronde In aession in the
Union Presbyterian church, extend
to the Pastor and his people our
heartfelt gratitude for the .kindly
hospitality extended to us in opening'
to us their homes, church and hotel,
and hi so many ways to make us feel
welcome.
(Fev. J. E. Youel, having accepted
work In Portland, resigned as stated
clerk and treasurer and Rev. Everet
Smlts waa elected to that office.

good things from beginning to end.
Mrs. Cockrum as president and Mrs.
Hanna recording secretary kept
things moving right along. Ten
classes were repored 'as studying
the mission work. Mrs. Currey.
usperintendent of gu'ld work, report
ed eight different bands studying
missions and thai one girl had ex
pressed her determination to be a
missionary as soon as -she is old
enough. This li a great work among
the young people and Mrs. Currey
was elected superintendent for the
ensuing year.
Mra. W. J. Townley welcomed the
visitors to the city in her pleasant
cordial way and Mrs, Wright of La
iranile responded and ;ae some 'n
terestlng history of the organizing
of the sncletv which came to life nine
years ago. The amount given .o aid
mtssons in that time amounted to
