Cattle Hold Their Own Wool
Higher In Eastern Markets.
In
Hogs have advanced another 15
cents and are within striking distance
of Orst grade beeves. Best grades
are being taken at $7.90 on the Port
land market and at $6.90 on the La
Grande market. The receipts were
not heavy (it the yards and the deal
era are bidding high for the stock to
compete with the country killed 'offer
logs. Hogs fell off a few cents In. the
Chicago and the Kansas City market
but the Portland market has remain
ed firm.
Cattle Hold Then- 'Own.
Cattle hare shown no change in the
past week, save that- the less choice
grades are going up to eight cents.
The best beeves have not climbed ov
er these figures but the difference Is
not so great. It Is reported that Mon
tana will ship to the coast Instead
of KansaB City and Chicago owing
to the better prices. Neither w'll
there, be a middleman. Al of tlie
ranchers will ship direct from the
ranges, thus solving the problem or
the middleman.
Groin Hugs Are Higher.
Now comes the announcement that
grain bags have gone up a cent In
some markets owing to the ileal ruc
tion by flre-of one of , the largest bag
factories of Indiana. They are now
quo ed at nine and a half cents in
the Portland-market and Indications
are for a higher price still.
When Going up.
- In all the markets of the world save
Argentina the price of wheat Is go
ing up. . London, . Paris and Berlin
quote wheat at a half to 6-8 cent high
er than' at the close of the market
yesterday. Argentine Is getting rid
of ..all wheat on hand to make room
for the crop that will be soon bar
vested. Wool Is Higher.
The eastern market, epeclally Bos
ton, have been clamoring for wool
unci the oeffrlngs have been very
light. This will have the effect to
IncroiiBe the price on the coast. Fol
