About four hundred years ago, a
I few hundred noblemen met at the
castle of a fellow nobleman, each
bearing the name William. The con-
I fusion which resulted was disconcert
ing. Tbey therupon went into sess
ion and passed a resolution that each
man use In addition to his given
name, that of his estate. Some of
these estates were known by the pecu
liar location of' the land, some pro
duct in which it excelled or some
striking bit of history with which it
was connected. Thus it came about
that there are sucn historical names
aa Walter the PennileBs, who lost his
estates; William ot Orange; Walter
Ton de Vogelwelde and a vast variety
ot descriptive personal nomamlature.
Tradesmen took the name of their

before. Take advantage of the op

should be known by a distinctive
name. Your children will be -proud
to speak of "ilillcrest farm' ot Wil
low Grove farm" or some similar
name Instead of referring to "fathers'
old place."

Arrangements for a formal "open
ling" program, delayed for various
reasons have been made by the man
agement of Sherry's theatre for Mon
day, night. The management has had
this in view ever sincr the purchase
from B. W. Sherwood but have been
putting it off until a crack program
could be made up.
As the topllner of the "opening"
program, the n)snagement announces
a return engagement of the famous
Hayes sisters who delighted a series'
of audiences with their clever work
less than a fortnight since. '

To further enhance the attractive
ness of the opening program the
bouse has Just been equipped with a
commodious stage, and is supplied
with scenery- painted by an expert
