According to present Indi cations the plan will probably be car ried out. The face of George Wash lngton will be seen on all the f 1 bills. This much Is due to George, the father of his country. The children will thus see him frequently, for there Is hardly anybody, even In the most strenuous times who doesn't catch a fleeting glim pad of a fl bill once in a while. The J2 bills will bear a picture of Thomas Jefferson, the father of Demo cracy, who drafted the Declaration of Society curses Ihese wonieni but r.uys we must have t'le curse; soclsiy blasphemes them In daylight and blesses them at night. Vv'lieo one of them whom we have ax cursed dies who blesses her? She is given a bur ial In potters field: no heara. no flowers, no prayers, no mourners, Sometimes two or three faithful friends from her own kind accompany the dead-wagon to the cemetery. Let one of the hundreds of met who con trlbuted to her continued downfall die and what Is the result? Fine casket, flowers, often the funeral from a lodge room (somietlmes from a church), mu- ttiHowmlanpA PpnnlA ' will vet A , . ' . ,., ale. carriages, eulogies, etc., etc., to chance to see Thomas only about halt I 9 ' ' ' as often as they see George, but per haps this is as it should be. The treas ury department, being expert in such matters, ought to know. The 5 bills wll bear the portrait of Abraham Lincoln and the $10 bills will portray the late Grover Cleveland. A good many young men working on alary will probable see Grover for a few minutes before their wlvfs or the. bill collectors arrive and in this way they will be able to beep a sort of bowing acquaintance with the portrait cf that notable Democrat. Andrew Jackson's picture will adorn the $20 bills, and the superintendents, depart ment beads, expert engineers and a few others, will have an excllnt op portunity to keep polished up, on the personal appearance of the strenuous old general. General Hrant's face will llumlne the $50 bills aad few outside of the bankers and lumbers will ever get a chance to see him. Franklin will adorn the $100 bills and the picture of Alexander Hamilton, the father of the treasury department, will be found on the $1,000 bills. Franklin will be eeen once in a while by a favored few. white Hamilton will rarely be seen excepting by newspaper men on sal ary day. 1 Howewr It Is a pretty good system. There may be many who will grow to think that WaBhlngtoa wa3 tha only great man who ever lived in this country, but they can lor.ra or the oth ers by reputation and by reading his tory. - If the treasury department could al so devise means whereby there could be more bills as well the public would be greatly obliged. THE COURTESAN CROAKED. (J. D. Glllllan.) "Belle croaked las, night." That's the way the male habltuts 6f her re sort, the hangers-on about the saloon, your nausea, wny tnis amerence when she Is the lesser sinner? The answer is contradictory: Alan Is a lord, woman Is a vassal, a lid the logic of the world Is "As it was, is bow and ever shall be." Thus the lesser becomes the greater, ome time ago In Welser, Idaho, a woman whom some men bad degrad ed was pursued to her room (her only refuge) by a man of family whom she had told must never visit her. In des peration She shot and killed him and then suicided. His lodge sent him to heaven, a martyr with a crown of glit tering gold. She lived some days un der guard at the hospital, calling tor someone with whom she might Bpeak; not an acquaintance, minister or oth er was called or permitted to see her. I was asked to attend her funeral. Not a dog that had ever hounded her haunts in the darkness was there. Llke the coyotes they are, they (some of thom) stood afar off and watched the half dozen of us start for the unhal lowed grate. - ;. ' ; . .;' I never have seen of these bruised beings, however low, but I have been willing to takra the no longer terrified and tearless face between my hands and plant a joyful Was of forgiveness on the forehead and help her by tak ing her to my own Home, or-pmcing hjr elsewhere, to get into the better life. God have mercy on them! Society will not. who can pray ror me peo ple who destroy them? Bean Trial Progresses. New Westminster, B. C, Aug. 20.
