Congress has recently passed a new law providing for the sale of Isolated i lnnds, which will now make It possl j ble for persons owning land in mountainous country, like Eastern Oregon, to purchase 160 acres of graz Ing land under the new law, whether the same Is isolated or not. Hereto fore, isolated land could not be pur chased unless it had been isolated for a period of two years, and all the surrounding lnnd had been entered for the same period. ; It also required that a tract must bo vacant and mib Ject to homestead entry before it was subject to sale as an. Isolated tract This law, however, has not been re pealed; buf an additional amendment has been mnde, giving the law a wid er scope. Must Flic Application. An applicant to purchase isolated laud under the new law, must file his application in the local land o(nce; showing that he Is the owner of the and joining the lJd applied for, or that he holds a valid entry embracing adjoining land, in connection with which, the laws have been fully com plied with; also detailed evidence as to the character of the land applied for, the extent to which it is cultlv able and the conditions which render the greater portion unfit for cultiva tion, also a description of all lands heretofore purchased under section 2455, of the revised statutes, of which the new law is an amendment. This evidence must consist of the a(Hda'it of the applicant, corroborated by two or more disinterested persons having actual knowledge of the facts. No sale will be authorized under the now law upon the application of a person who has procured one offer ing thereunder except upon a showing of strong necessity therefor, owing to some peculiar condition which pre vented original application for the full area allowed to be sold at one time, which is 160 acres.
