La Grande? pre paring to erect an- Association bul)cf ing, I believe It will surely come. JVhat I have to say la gathered neither jirom pewspaper -reports nor a birdseye view of the county but from a more or less close Inspection of nearly ev ery, town' in Union' county. Without any possible tear of 'successful con tradiction I would plice this' county over all others in Eastern Oregon"' in regard , to almost, everything. Just , now I can think of nothing thaf'. we do not have the best of. But for fearj some other county might raise more elks I so qualify my,' statement. Again, I believe that o county in Eastarn Oregon lends Itself so well to the work of 'a county association. -Train service brings us close together. Only one town ofany very great lni-. portance, Summervllle, is off the rail way, ;" When La Grande builds their association every town In the county will wish they could do the same. But La Grande is the only city in the val ley that, could Just now well support! such an undertaking. That La Grande growing as It is, needs a Y. M. C. A., there Is no doubt. That these other towns need a Y. M. C. A. there la very little doubt. But conditions prohibit that such should be. the , course of events. Now that statement In one sense is correct but in another it is far from correct we shall discover a little later. ' When La Grande erects; a Y, M,; C. A. many men throughout the. county will respond , liberally , toward the building fund. Why? Because there are men in this county outside of La Grande who .are interested in. char acter building. If they can be con vinced that an association in La Grande Is going to benefit their own community they will be doubly liber al. This brings us back to our first suggestion, a Union County Y.. M. C. A. with the La Grande.', association building as headquarters and a. sec retary whose duties it would be to look after by personal supervision and by correspondence the , work of the towns and communities outside ol the direct influence of that associa tion. Such a task would be by no means an easy one but the results I firmly believe would be exceedingly gratifying in strengthening all phases of Christian work among the boys and men of this county. In this way and no other will the smaller towns of the valley have the work of the Y, M. C.-A. "" ' : ' r ' - Everybody -Will Do It Now- DO WHAT?
