NOTICE OF STREET IMPROVEMENT It's the same old story thisyear a great big crop and good prices In the Urande Romle valley. Can you beat it any place on earth? .THE NEEDED HOSPITAL., For. years La Grande, with her hun idredB of workmen who largely-; work In plates which Bubject,' them , to acci dent, was without a hospital.. Differ ent attempts .were, 'made 6y private parties to establish: a small Institu tion, lot like every -effort of the kind .It only got a short distance. i: , A few of the. physicians- decided. La Grande must have a hospital complete In the different departments' to faclli -.tuts siirsrerv ' In fact. - this citv be- -came such a canter that the demands for such an institution were strong and tne pnysicians responaea in a way that has niven a modern institu tion to flils community. This year beautifying the grounds and adding equipment have taken up the loose money as well as the time of those at the head of the project, out these Improvements all combine to complete the Institution. All slops can be thrown into this and the water will filter away Into the ground. : When the barrel comes filled it can be pulled out, leaving the gar bage in the ground. This can be cov ered with soil and burled. ' . . The above has been; found to be a very satisfactory way to dispose of slops and also abating the fly nui sance. It only requires changing about twice a year. DniidelloiiH n Pest. Another thing that Is detracting from our City Beautiful Is the dande lion pest. - These may be easily de stroyed by dropping a drop of sul phuric acid from 'an oil enn into the center of each plant, care lining taken to not get It on the grass.
