Carr, last Monday evening, at the Elks auditorium with Miss Helen Gates of Hlllsboro as motif, stands as the biggest social venture In La Grande thus 'far this year. More than 150 were guests at dancing and the rich ness and beauty of gowns worn ' by scores of the ladles characterizes the affair as equal to the tone and eclat the annual Elks ball have establish ed in the past. That usually avoid ed feature decoration for informal parties, was skillfully handled by the hosts and hostesses. The monotony of i the floor space was broken by a dual setee "shaded" by fern trees, and two rest corners prettily arranged with rugs and fern trees made both pleas ing effects to the eye arid provided ade quate opportunity for momentary rests.
