THE oldest United States senator In point of service Is Shelby M.
Cullom, senior representative of Illinois In the upper house of.
congress. He Is second in point of age only to Senator Stephen
son of Wisconsin, who was born on June 18. 1820, a little more
than five months before Mr. Cullom,' whose birthday is Nov. 22. The
senator whose length of service most nearly approaches his Is 6alllnger
of New Hampshire, who has been in the senate continuously for twenty
one years as against Cullom's twenty-nine. In bin reminiscences,' re
cently published, he reviews with great' frankness his relations with the
statesmen of his time. Including Lincoln .Johnson. Grant.' Blnlne. Gar
field, Harrison and John Sherman. President Taft said of him a little
while ago,-"He comes nearer connecting the present with the days of
Washington than any one whom I know." He Is chairman of the for

Sing Sing, New York, Jan; 29. Cool,
and protesting his innocence to the
very:; last, Albert Wolter was electro
cuted today for the murder of Roith
Wheeler. The murder was committed
a little over two. years ago and cre
ated considerable excitement at the
time on account of the fiendish manner
in which her body had been mutilated.
The body of the murdered woman was
found In the room of Wolter and it was
proven at the trial that Wolter had In
serted an advertisement for a stenog
rapher, which had been answered by
the victim. In a note which the con
demned man left,' he claimed that he
had been the victim of circumstantial
evidence.:'' '"'.''
As he was taken from the death
chamber Wolters ' turned to eighteen
other condemned murderers and said:
"Good bye, boys, It will soon be over

He went to the chair. In a jaunty,
self possessed manner and maintained
his nerve until the, very. last.,, Three
minutes after the current had 'been
turned on he was pronounced dead.
Dr. Lane, the execution witness, said

Information of the arrest of Oi Sen,
a Chinese woman . suspected of the
murder of Seld Blng, a Portland Chi
nese, the trunk victim, at Billings,
Montana, Detective Day will take out
requisition papers and leave tonight
for Billings. The woman will tried .on
a charge of first degree murder here.
