The leaders wisely saw that u numbej; of evangelists sweeping over the land would not be a success ful solution. It would take a system atic lubricating of tho present church machinery, by securing specialists along certain lines of Christian work and let these men faithfully teach and train Christian men along these spe cial lines In 90 cities of the United Sates, and these 90 cities, after being hundred smaller cities and these smal ler cities to pass It on to the villages, thus making it a chain to reach all parts of this country. "If the opportunity of this training Is appreciated and taken advantage of by a large number of Christian men In the Initial cities, of which Birmingham is one, I do not think there Is nny doubt that the aim of the originators will be accomplished In few years than we think." In the course of a review of condi tions here, one of the leading dally newspapers, the Birmingham Ledger, devotes the larger part of a page to telling just what has boon accomplish ed thus far. Interviews with various men connected with the movement are published, including one with J. P. Stubbs, chairman of tho committee on evangelism, who says that work along Ills special line has already been ; conducted aggressively. The.se meetings were held In the down town theatre and the churches and be sides creating a great deal o( Interest for the movement a number of the men decided for Christ. The commit tee also conducted a series of meet ings with Dr. J. I. Vance, of Nashville, Teiin., as the leader. One large union meeting was held in the First Baptist church and another rally meeting for men in the down town theatre. All of these meetings brought splendid re sults, During the week o( prayer noon day prayer meetings wore conducted under the auspices of this committee. This fnmmlttee now hus plaits under way to have every church organization In this city represented during the eight-day campaign. We expect, dur ing the week of this campaign, to con duct noon meetings and other large platform meetings, whore men will be given an opportunity to decide for Christ, Following this cnmpalgn the committee lias plans already under way for the carrying out of the mes sages given by the expert on evan gelism, and also to maintain aggres sive work along nil lines of personal evangelism." Tlugh F. Latimer, chairman of the committee on auxiliary towns, said:. "The Men and Religion Forward Movement has taken wonderful hold In the dtles and villages through the state of Alabama.' The committee, a great many o( whom are traveling men .18 been spreading the message of Men and Religion wherever they went so that there Is hardly a city or vil lage in the state that does not know something about this greaj movement that is stirring the hearts and chang ing the lives of men as nothing has ev er done before. Many o( our cities have already organized and nearly all o( them will send In large delegations to the convention which Is to be held in Birmingham February 7th and 8th. Through the kindness o( a friend. o( the Men and Religion Forward move ment, on whose heart the Lord laid the burdens o( the needs of bis fel lows, we are enabled to maintain an auxiliary town secretary.-J. A. Hug gins, who is now engaged In organiz ing the 14 centers where conventions will be held, Immediately following the eight-day campaign In Birmingham. Birmingham will furnish these 14 cen ters with experts, who will give them the six messages of the Men and Re ligion Forward Movement. It is hoped by the organization, which this com mittee has now about perfected, that these wonderful messages will reach the smallest center of population In even the smallest center of population in the whole state.' J. E. Ramsey, chairman of the pro gram committee, said: "I desire to add my endorsement to what has already been said regarding the Men and Re ligion ' Forward movement. It is a movement that appeals to all classes and conditions of men and should have the hearty support of every Christian man in this and every other' city. "The program committee, of which I am chairman, has not yet entered upon its duties, but will. do so In the very near future. The work set apart for this committee Is to arrange a pro gram covering the eight days, that the i experts will be with us, so arranging J the program as to time and place, that every man in and around the city will have an opportunity of hearing these experts and catching the spirit of the movement. Meetings will be arranged for in the center of the city and In all the outlying districts, as well as in the shops, factories and mills. "We believe that the coming of this campaign Is the beginning of better days for the churches of Birmingham' John Taylor, of the boys' work com mittee, said: "Our committee of ten has been nt work for the past few months plan ning the greatest work in the world boys' work and have divided the ! city Into five divisions, appointing two of our committeemen to be responsi ble for securing the names and ad dresses of all men actively engaged in boys' work In each division. This work has about been completed. A number of meetings have been held in the different divisions for old er boys and their leaders. These meetings have been conducted princi pally by boys, the addresses, prayers and songs being usually by boys. "We are planning to assist In put ting In motion In every church a live boys' organization to help save them, to take care of them socially and spir itually. There are three things wte are trying to do for the boys in each church, to organize classes, to recom mend a boys' club and to give them social life. . .
