It was the largest barley breeding plant In the whola world a year ago and many other things of as great import- . ance as barley are' being developed. . Yet there Is little said about "the sta tion In this county. . Comparatively few people take advantage of what can fixture and people have ceased to think of It as anything else. This is wrong for Robert Withycombe, the man in charge, is always anxious to give out ;V anything he can and he is" one of thu best mien In his line in the northwest. From a paper at Corvallls we quote something about Harney county and t ler experiment farm: - . ; '' At the request of Director Brei thaupt, of thtj Harney ounty experi ment station, a large crowd of Har ney county, farmers met at Burns for the purpose of organizing a Farmers' Co-operative league, the object ' of which, according to Mr. . Brelthaupt's statement, is to keep the farmers and , the experimental station constantly ; In touch with one another, , so that they may work for mutual hlp'and benefit. . : . ; ; ' v . " '" Mr. Bretthaupt wishes the farmers , all over this county to report to him -what they are accomplishing!, the methods pursued, their suocess or fail ure, the character of the soli operated on and the vartetles of produce culti rated, in order that he may kn6w and demonstrate.
