(Spaclal) In an effort to minimize fatal result? from what first appear to be only min or accidents, the Southern Pacific com pany, through Its chief Burgeon, Dr. F. K. AInsworth, has ordered Installed on the baggage cars, combination cars and cabooses, what are known univer sally as "first aid" packages. " Ever since the railroads of the country first became Interested in .first aid work, the Southern Pacific trains have been equipped with "first aid" kits, but these were so large that when one was opened only one or two were used and several were left to become dirty and unfit for medical use. r The "first aid" packages contain for one wound and a sufficient i.umber of packages are placed In each car to take care of a large number of wounds should It happen that any grea: num ber of persons Incur Injuries at tin same time. Qrcuit Judge J. W. Knowles this morning directed a verdict in favor of Mr. Pierera for $1,500 for damages sus tained in the destructive fire of a year or so ago when the Pierce warehouse was fired by . a spark from the branch line engine, entailing a loss of more than $20,000. The Sun Insurance com pany carried a policy of $1,500 on the warehouse and contents but claimed that because the warehouse was par tially on the.O. (R. & N. right of way, the insurance company was not held liable; claimed that Mr. Pierce stored hay when this was In violation of the policy stipulations.
