Music teachers from Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Spo kane and many other cities of the northwest hare sent ; in applications for their pupils to take part In the second annual musical contest which take place on Thursday and Friday of this week under the auspices of the Whitman Conservatory of Music. No students in pipe organ or ,ln violin have appeared so that the first even ing, Thursday, will be devoted wholly t6 the ompetltion for piano contest ants, of which there are a large num ber, the Judges being the piano teacn ers of the conservatory. Friday even, ing will be devoted to the contest in voice. Judged by the teachers of the voice department of the conseratory. Mr. Fort is a prominent member of the Omaha lodge of Elks and Is an en thusiastic Bupporter of Portland for the 1912 convention. Through his ef forts many "Portland 1912" clubs have been organized among the lodges In the middle west and all these will unite In the endeavor to bring the big meeting to this city next year.
