Production followed production and n.arly all met the same depress ing fate. In thiB dearth of things dra matic, and among the few plays des tined to hold' the stage is George Broadhurst's greatest of all American plays, "The Man of the Hour.'f , The "Man of the Hour" Is an exam ple, of the superlative in the drama. The play fulfills the requirements of dramatic art while the lesson it con veys vindicates the claim that the av ua ouu n oqueuuy is an agency in uplifting . the people com parable with the pulpit and the press. No other play produced ft the Unit ed States in many years has been subject to so much' favorable criti cism. HsTe are some examples: "The best play I have ever seeu." Col. Theodore Roosevelt. "A play that means something." U'm. Winter, Critic, N. Y. Tribune. A special cast will be seen during this engagement; it musters a roll of Borne of the. best artists on the American stage and includes. A. Brady. This is the play that ran so long in New York City, and when the summer came was transferred to the Aerial gardens, . atop the New Amsterdam theatre, where the 'run was continued ' right through ' Juta July and August, establishing for the first . time Iq .the history of the theatre that the public; will so to see a play it wants to see even In a sum mertime root playhouse. It was a strange experiment this thing . of giving "A Gentleman from Mlssisslp pi" with Its fine domestic story and Its exquisite comedy atmosphere, on a roof, hitherto associated with the Irresponsible frivolities of musical comedy, of singing and danclng and clowning, and of entertainment pre- ppred In the mistaken belief that th? Mimmertlme audiences do not care 'or the plivs they flock to see In the cooler weather. i Notice is hereby given that the un dersigned, Clarence O.
