Saturday's election was. simply a repetition of former results when ever the people understood the situ ation, they are always ready to con tribute to the public schools. This was the heaviest vote ever cast on a bonding proposition and carried near ly two to one. Those, or at least 95 per cent of thos who voted against the bonds, were not opposed to main taining the best possible schools, bin - held different views regarding the method. Some thought the waul schools would prove to be a better Investment and without doubt there was merit in that view, but the ma jority who voted against the bonds were not acquainted with our actual Immediate .requirements It Is all over now und those op posed, we hope and expect, will see their error before another year rolls by and when we christen our new high school building next September there will be over 200 and possibly 250 high school students properly cared for. La Grande took an advanc ed step Saturday. Another year we will be the educational center of the county as well as the financial, so cial and political. This will prevent ,at least a reduction of 30 per cent ,'. in the number of students sent to out side schools. r'I?.Be6'.wlu tome to La" Grande: The the March term next move along school matters shouldbe for Union county to adopt the Lane county system. This should be submitted to the voters at the el ection next November, If practical. Next Monday circuit court con venes.
