Phone Main 64, Mahaffey Buildin' Depot Street In this period of Oregon politics, words of description' Of the propos ed assembly plan are of interest A Portland paper in enlarging on the proposed methods, says: It Is suggested by these Republi cans that one delegate be elected to the state assembly from every pre cinct in the state. In the larger pre cincts the representation would be baced on the voting strength of the party, one additional delegate being allowed for each additional 100 vot ers or major fraction thereof, or on some other similar basis. The idea proposed contemplates that each precinct have a represen tation in proportion to its voting strength. In order that the state assembly shall be representative of every county, the practice of giving proxies under this system would be limited to the delegates elected from that county or to some other member of the party In the same county. It is urged by those favoring this plan that while such an assembly might be considered too large by some, It would not afford an oppor tunity for anti-assembly men to charge that the gathering was con trolled by any combination in the In terests of and particular set of can didates. If the selection of dele gates to the state assembly Is left to the county assemblies it Is av erred by the advocates of the larger state assembly that It will be easier for selfish candidates to control or at least Influence the selection of state delegates, by the county as semblies. Where the membership of the state assembly Is elected direct from the precincts, it is contended that the opportunity for organizing the state gathering In the interest of any par ticular candidate or candidates will be serloasly curtailed.
