"The Gtrl at the Helm," paid her first visit to Portland yewterday and received great crowds of people in the afternoon and evening at the Baker theatre. Her new acqualntences were D delighted with her and pronounced her one of the brightest, breeziest nnd best atractlons at the Baker this year by long odds. There is enough of a' plot to roako It Interesting, not burdensome, and if the principles were all nil the cho ruses would be sufficient to make amends. But the actors are right there and with Billy Clifford as the bright particular star , all's said. Billy is nearly but net nil the show. The chorus is not large but It sings does not merely make a noise and prominent in it Is the sextet of nin'.e voices who look as though they were designed for leading and Juvenile men but had in some way strayed Into the chorus.
