TAKING 1NYETORT OF ASSETS. The politicians who wish to run ev erything In this state on the assembly ' plan should get busy taking little inventory of their sto-k in trade. First they adopted resolutions in Portland asking the initiative and ref erendum anrenduieut to the constitu tion. At thl3 the State Granae took ac tion and notified all the subordinate granges to fight the proposed retro gressive measure. Next the assembly for nominating state and county candidates was pro mulgated and all who would not sub scribe were threatened with political ostracism In the name of republican ism. The smoker system for getting up steam for the assembly was tried on and developed that the labor organiza tions en masse are against cuttling the direct primary law. The promoters of the assembly have not got very far, but they have already struck some big snags that will keep them busy, and if they want any more evidence that the assembly plan Is doomed to defeat they can get it in .iort order.
