In the absence of Mayor Hall, chair man of the committee to look into the proposition of employing a competent engineer to make a sewerage plat of the city as a preparatory step look ing to the paving of the business sec tion of the city, Councilman Myers of the committee made a statement to the council last night concerning: the results of the deliberations of the com mittee. His verbal report was in sub stance as follows: ; ; i "The members of the committee. Mav or Hall, Mr. Reynolds and'Mystelf are of the opinion that it would be a good policy to accept the offer of the Grande Konde Reservoir Company to extend to. the city' the use of its engineer; Mr. Darley. for a few weeks, that he is not at the. present time badly needed by that company, and is employed by the company by the year. - f'The company's proposition is that the city pay $175 per month .for. Mr, Darley's services.' This will pay Mr. Darley, his regular'salary.ofc J150'dbt J month and give the company $25 for me use oi me instruments. The city, must pay for the help required by the engineer. The "expense attached to the work under this plan would be much teas than any other that we yet have in Bight. Other offers are In -the 'neigh borhood of $10 per day or in the neigh borhood of $1000 flat. The company's offer enables the city to get the Job done for less than $500. "Engineer Darley thinks that a sys tem of large tanks could be put in to catch the heavy sewerage and that the water from these tanks could be Bold to irrigators.
