Mrs. Jackson Lewis of Elgin was a business visitor in La Grande to day. t Rev. Henry Martin of Summervllle Is in town today to have a Joint of his little finger removed. Dr. Biggers did the work. C. Boner and Burt Wlnfleld, two well known men of JoBeph, are in the city this afternoon transacting busin- ess. ' . Lou Stoop of Elgin Is in the city to day, having come down last evening on a business trip. Mr. Stoop has sold his confectionary store in Elgin. C M. Bush arrived home from his orchard at Twin Falls today and will spend the winter here. He brings with him the characteristic push and boost prevalent in the Twin Falls country. Engineer and Mrs. Thomas Budge and Daughter Miss Sid, returned this morning from an extended visit in Galesburg, Illinois, and at Omaha. They report great quantities of snow In the middle west. James G. Kilpack, representative of the Boy's and Girl's Aid society of Portland left for Telocaset last nteht after spending the day in this city vis iting the schools In the Interests of a Thanksgiving offering for the Port land Institution. Field Superintendent F. 8. Bramwell went to Union today to straighten out some trouble with the Jap laborers working for an individual beet grower. The factory is now running and Mr. Bramwell is rapidly having the residue of the beet crop hauled to the factory. Dr J. D. GUlilan will leave tomor row morning for a three weeks' trip Into Idaho and Southeast Oregon to morrow morning to Inspect the work of the various churches and to take pay checks the missionary workers. While gone he will be in Nyssa, Ore gon on Thanksgiving day to assist in the dedication of their new church. President Homan of the Willamette University will manager the finances . on that occasion. Wolf in which Wolf is charged with having knifed Chinese Louey, keeper of the noodle Joint on Fourth street, the first witness for the defense, Wolf himself, was called to the stand at 3:30 this afternoon and testified that the 'Chinaman wanted to make him pay for two other fellows who had run off He said that a fight had ensued in which he had knocked the Chinaman against the door cutting his face. Judge Fee Here. Judge James A. Fee of Pendleton, who has been in Enterprise attending court came out this afternoon on his return to Pendleton. Mr. Hawes formerly lived at Hilgard and has a large circle of friends in Union county.
