Mrs. yVagoner, who has been visi ting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Free man Ladd, returned to her home in Enterprise today. Lecturer J. M. Fanning of Phila delphia, who lectured at the Christian church last evening on prohibition, went out to Wallowa today. Cam Caylor expects to leave next week for Burns where his brother and Pat Foley are now located. He plans to remain for some time. R. Macon Gibson, son of Rev. and Mrs. W. II. Gibson, went out to Sum merville today, where he will be a guest at the J. M. Choate family. Mrs. T. A. RInehart Is expected home from Eugene, about the 17. She is some better and her friends will be delighted to see her home again. Miss Harriett Harris leaves tonignt for Philadelphia, where she will visit extensively with her uncle, Rear Ad miral U. R. Harris, commandant at the League Island Navy Yards. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Fraker arrived this morning from a 15-days visit at Seattle and other coast points. They state that they enjoyed the fair Im mensely. Mrs. Lloyd Dotlamead of the ex treme south of the United States, who has been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Seemann, went to Portland on the delayed train today. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Ayers, who rec ently sold their property at Starkey to the Meadowbrook Irrigation com pany, leaves today for Fruitdale, Cali fornia, where they will spend the winter and may decide to locate. Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Moore, toda? gave possession of their home, which they sold a few days ago to Mr. Hill of Starkey, and have taken their per manent quarters at the Foley House, Mrs. Grace Barrle, proprietor of the Barrle rooming house, and son Renle, went to Summerville this af ternoon to be guests for a few days with Miss Belle Meyers, who went out with them. Operator Calvert and his bride of a few days, returned to La Grande last evening and will make their home here. They were married at The Dalles a few days' ago. Mr. Calvert is employed in the dispatch-1 er's oiBee here. . ' I Bridge Superintendent . Campbell and Contractor Fitzgerald start next Monday to build the concrete abut ments to the new Oro Dell bridge. They plan to have the work finished by October first, when ' the steel for the structure is slated to arrive. They will use a crew of about eight men. Mr. and Mrs. Claire Scriber, who have been planning on leaving La Grande and going to Portland to live permanently, have decided to remain in La Grande. They have made ar rangements to again occupy their Washington street residence and will occupy it after next Monday. Their many friends will be pleased to know that they are going to remain. Mr. and Mrs.Chris Miller, who have purchased 1500 acres of ranch land near Clover Creek in the region of Ladd Canyon, are in the city today and will make their future home on their ranch. They come from North Yakima, an dare accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sivengood, also of that place. The big ranch was for merly owned by J. F. Smith. Frank George, who was operated upon yesterday afternoon at the hos pital, by Dr. A. L. Richardson, is do ing nicely today. It was a very com plicated case, an abscess having form ed. It will be a few days until the patient Is considered entirely out of danger, but unless complications not expected, he wil ibe past the danger zone soon. This was Mr. George's third attack, the first being last May. L. L. Dunn, of the A. B. C. laun dry, leaves tonight on the first vaca tion he has had since he can remem ber. Like the black team that he drives, he works without vacations, but now is going to spend about 10 days at the fair. Mrs. Dunn has been at Seattle for several weeks, and is now awaiting his arrival. Miss Anna Alexander will leave to night for Omaha, where she will visit relatives. Mr. Morris of Imbler, accompanied by his son and daughter, were in La Grande yesterday on business. E. Muhollen, who left here four mouths ago to visit his son Dick, who lives in Prineville, and the Puget Sound country, has returned home. . The force at the sheriff's office is busy today making out the tax no tices to be sent to the tax payers of Union County. Bandmaster Selak and Mr. Prultt; who have been at Perry on a painting contract, returned home this after noon. Carl Stillwell the eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Stillwell of May Park, was operated on for appendicitis at the hospital this afternoon. Though the land office is usually closed on Saturday afternoons, the present day found it not so, due to the unusual amount of work on hand. The force kept at work until the usu al closing hours. City Recorder and Mrs. D. E. Cos, and their friends from the east, who have been visiting them, left at noon for the Minam, where they will put in a few days at fishing and'camping. Mr. Mansager is acting recorder dur ing his absence. Mrs. Doctor O'Connor, who has been visiting in Union since her return from Portland, will arrive in the city tonight, accompanied by her daugh ter Miss Marie, and the two will Join the husband and father here, . They will occupy the Mac Donald home. David Block, advertising manager of the wholesale and retail firm of J. K. Gill & company of Portland, is here for a few days visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. Moz Block.
