Fishermen have had no trouble this season In securing an abundance of bait as the grasshoppers in all sec tions of the mountains are reported to be more in evidence than for sev eral years. ifri '. . Our poultry growers will surprise the thousands who visit our fair with their display. There are few counties In the state whfre as many fine fouls are grown as in Union and quite a number are already preparing their coops for exhibit. ?S3 What may happou remaius to be seen. It is evident for the present ' that Secretary Ballinger will cot re move Chief Forester Plnchot for some time yet. President Taft Is too shrewd a potitlclim to permit anything like this. ' v ' : iii lMve'ii kimiUmios, while discuss ing our soon-to-be, pure wator supply and the wonders that, our irrigation project Is going to. do for this im mediate vicinity, just slip in ,a good word for the Onion county exposition. It is boosting everything good that helps a count i y. Francis J. Ileney miule a s great showing. J lis name was not on the official ballot, and had to be written lu the blank by each voter, and while the campaign was on Heney was out Of the stale, in Alaska nnd Oregon. With the wealth arrayed against him, it shows plainly that the majority of the people of San Francisco are with Heney ou his graft prosecution. . f-K ' When we pet our gravity water sys tem in there will be demand for a lowering of the state during the irriga tion season. The present rate of 25 .cents per thousand gallons of water for irrigating the lawns which adds so much to Hie beauty of our city is en tirely too high. It always has been too high. It tloes not cost to exceed .7 cents per thousand gallons to pump it and we" do not believe that for this purpose the city should exact 100 per cent. House rates of 25 . cents per thousand gallons does not matter much as there are few houses that exceed the minimum rate for domestic purposes, but during the irrigation reason the rate should be lowered, and when the gravity , system is in the demand will doubtless be so great that this will be done. The Union county exposition is meeting with gratifying support gen-,-, erally. At first It was maintained that stockmen would not bring their show stuff to the city. Those w ho had given thla matter much thought and had investigated what was being accom plished in other places, knew this seeming prejudice would soon disap pear, but were somewhat doubtful about the first season. However as soon as the stockmen become acquain ted with the accommodations that are being made for the protection and housing of their stock, they make no objection, and are pleased to know that they will have the opportunity of showing the stock to thousands of people who heretofore never knew that we had a stock exhibition at our fairs. Their location being off to one aide many did not take the trouble to visit that section. The people gener ally throughout the county are be ginning to catch the spirit of enthusi asm as Is being manifest by the peo ple of this city.
