Baker City, the Huntington gateway players, holding a strong cinch hand on the penant, have now gone the way of the Union team and are no more. Lack of finances are said to be re sponsible for the gateway team was conducted on an exepensive basis. The team commenced to go to pieces when Spoonover packed his grip. It is presumed that Baker City has grabbed some of the Huntington players for they have strengthened remarkable in the last two days. By the dropout of Huntington, Cove leads the league with Elgin and La Grande tied for second place.. NO GAME SUNDAY. Schedule Not Arranged In Time For . a Game Here. La Grande did not play anywhere yesterday as the new schedule, made necessary by the disbanding of Union, had not been arranged In time for the game. The new schedule is ar ranged and now and if there is not a change before Sunday the team from this place will go to Klgln, al though it may be changed so that the team from Cove will come here. KILPATRICK Will LEAVE Frank Kilpatrick is today packing his household furniture, preparatory to moving to Natron, near Eugene, Oregon, where he has purchased a fruit tract and will make his future home. Natron is the terminus of the interior-puncturing road now bel'.g actually built, and Mr. Kilpatrick be leives he has found a good location. Through 20 yearB of residence here, Mr, Kilpatrick and his family nave become well known and a large circle of friends will regret to see them go Fraternally, Mr. Kilpatrick has be come prominent, especially in Ma sonic circleB, and even now holds a high office in the local chapter. He retired from active business, that of implement dealing, a year ago ard since then has been cleaning up his business slate to take his depart j re to western Oregon. His family with the exception of James Kllputdck, will go with him. FA KM HOUSE IMPROVED. Local Firm Doing The Interior Pec oration And Fainting. Painters Adklns and Garrlck left this morning for William Miller's res idence near the Red Pepper school bouse to do some high class painting and interior decoration on that house. The expect to be gone about four or five days, and will put beauty and fashionable attire to the Miller home. Mr. Miller is putting on the very best decoration to be had, and the men employed to the work are well fitted for the task. The Miller home will be one of the beauties of the valley when finished. Oregon, and declaring i the Intention of improving that por- 1 tion of Adams avenue from 4th street ! east to the city limits situated In said ' district I Whereas the new revised and con solidated charter of the City of La Grande, adopted by the people of the! city, on the 22nd day of June, 1909, gives the Council "authority to create improvement districts in the city and to Improve the streets therein: Now i therefore, be It resolved by the Com mon Council or the City of La Grande, Oregon, that all that, portion of Ad ams avenue within the city limits, be and the same Is hereby declared to be Improvement district No. 1 in the City of La Grande, Oregon. Be.lt further resolved, that the Common Council hereby declares ita Intention of Improving the above de scribed portion of said avenue. In said district as follows: that all that portion of said avenue from 4th street to Hemlock street, be Improved hy laying pavement thereon, the material to be used and the manner of making said Improvement, to be selected and provided by the Council, That all that portion of said Adams avenue from Hemlock street east to the city limits, in said improvement district, ihall be improved by macadamizing the same, in the manner hereafter provided by the Council. Be it' further resolved that the Council appoint three or its members as commissioners to make an exam ination of all property upon v which assessments are to be levied as to the valuation If any, of the benefits to be derived by said property by reason of said improvements. Be it further resolved by the Com mon Council that this resolution be published in one issue of the papers of the city. Adopted by the Common Council of La Grande on the 5th day of August, 1909.
