Now that the rain is about over, investigation shrtl that the dam age to graift la trifling, while the benefit to the second crop of alfalfa and spring grain Is incalculable. Heavy winds, the first of which oc curred July 25th, knocked down a good deal of fall wheat, but the head ers will be able to pick up most of that, and but little was knocked down by the rain. Very little hay, and most of that grain hay, was down or In shape to be damaged. Altogether Ualoh county farmers are richer by many thousands of dollars by reason of the rain. Big Gathering of Enstern Oregon Medics iu Pendleton. One of the biggest medical meet ings to be held In the state this year will be held in Pendleton during the week of the district fair. It will be the rfnnual session of the eastern Oregon medical society and will be held there on September 28-29. Many physicians from the western portion of the state will also be present. It Is anticipated that at least 100 phy sicians will attend the convention. Dr. C. J. Smith of Pendleton, Is the chairman of the local committee on arrangements. Though a long distance in the fu ture, It Is believed that La Grande's medical delegation will attend almost n a unite. Advertised Letters.
