There met in the city of Seattle last week the first' meeting of the sort in this region or any other one of Metho dism. It was a "brain storm" of a La Grande man, and proved to be an un qualified success. All Methodism is divided into districts. There are fif teen of them, and you, Mr. Editor, as sisted in the forming of the last and newest, the fifteenth. . This territory occupies the following bit of American soil:, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Mon tana, Washington and Alaska, together with these choice bits of foreign lands, Bengal, Bombay, Malaysia, North In dia, Philippines, and South India con ferences. The Idea was primarily to have rep resentatives of the various portions of the American continent present the facts as to the various possibilities of the states embodied, and to show the work that is being done by and thru the many agencies of the widely spread denomination. The projector receiving the moat hearty cooperation of the men and women working here was able to see the plans carried out exactly as pre arranged and programmed. There were representatives from all the American divisions above mentioned, as well as from far away Bombay. Fishops Warren, Smith and IIuuT3 v.tre also there, coming from Denver. San Francisco and Portland. The senior Bishop Warren, told us the debts we owe the coming generation; ;t was masterful. Bishop Smith do lined the new Methodist term District Superintendent, and Bishop Hughes described the sort of superintendents the church needs. By different men there were presen- j ted the following subjects: Foreigner ni tne Aortnwest; cities or tne norm v.TBt; Strategic points of the North west; Alaska as a Mission Field, Wv omlng as a. Mispion Field, Economic Demands of this region for strategic campaigning. Pacific Coast Japanese, etc., while the women and the deacon esses spoke on the work they can and are doing lor tne neeay among our cities and neglected places.
