G. members met at the hall and marched in a body to the Presbyterian church, where they listened to a very elo quent and pleasing address by Rev. Seemann, who took for his subject "Our Heroes and Our Heritage," speaking with much feeling of the service rendered us of the younger generation by these, "Our Heroes;" and with inspiring sentences the re sult of their sacrifice which haB be come "Our Heritage." On account of May 30 falling on Sunday, Memorial-day exercises will take place on Monday; Rev. Deal will make the address. Eighteen thousand acres of land in Oregon and 25,000 acres in California were withdrawn from the Pitt 'river re clamation project and restored to en try because the government decided that it was feaslbl to use the waters of Goose lake for the project'. In front ot Coolldge's paint store the cart smashed a wheel off a light hack In which were seated Mrs. J. E. Jerman and her three children, two littl girls and a 12-year-old son. who was driving. Mrs. Jerman and the girls were thrown out, but aside from a few painful bruises, are uninjured. The little boy bravely duug to the lines until the team was stopped In front of the Golden Rule store by Mac Wood and another man, who was standing there. Mrs. Jerman con siders herself very forunate that she or the children were not badly hurt. The driver of the cart appeared be fore Recorder Cox this afternoon and paid hla fine.
