The work done on the last week proved unsatisfactory but this time, improvements are lasting. Mrs. Jack Handrahan returned last night from a visit with her mother at Union. - ' Employes of the water department were busy today chopping out the ragged edges of the break in the pe destal of the fountain. A casting will be made at the Fitzgerald Iron works to repair the break. C. R. Beckley who owns a fine piece of fruit land near Imbler was offered $100 per acre for his holding but re fused the offer. Mr. Beckley Is one of our wide awake businessmen who see what the prophetic eye sees a much higher value for Grand Ronde valley land in the near future. SOCIETY. The ParK-Dale club met Wednesday p. m. at the residence of Mrs. Beaml ette In Perry. The Dale ladies furnished the tarry-alls. After -a responsive roll-call eiid brief business meeting a strong lit erary program was rendered. Games followed. In the natural history drawing contest Mrs. Smith won the first prize, a decorated china plate; and Mrs. Adler the "booby prize a delicate china oval. Thus the Park ladies boldly grasped both prizes. The hostess served a delicious two course luncheon, after which the members were tendered a surprise, as Mrs. Carrol had secured the half hour service of a typical gypsy fortune tel ler of renown, paying for the same out of her own pin money. Thus from out of a simple teacup the fates of nearly a score of ladies were satis factorily told. Members present were: Mesdames, Riddle, Carrol, Hall, Smith, Adler. Clarke. Chandler, Wyatt, Boniell.
