Miss Mary Geary of Hot Lake visi ted friends here this morning. Hot Lake drew its uhii.i1 quota of Sunday visitors yesterday. Joe Kelly and Kd Hutches, of La Grande, are guests at Hot Ijtke. Mr. and Mrs. Green spent Saturday at Hot Lake.' Ben Knapper of Joseph was a Sun day visitor In La Grande. Miss Mabel StiUweil who has been the guest of Imbler friends during the past week, returned today. , - Lytou Ivanhoo, who has been em ployed in Enterprise for some weeks, returned to La Grande today. Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Swackhamer re turned last night from an extended visit to California points. Several greeks were sent to Wal lowa today where they will he used to repair the O. R. & N. tracks. Mr. and Mrs. P. II. Green, leave to night for Twin Falls to spend five ircunn uu . . v ... Prof. J. D. Stout of Dayton is here today ' visiting the schools which he next year will be superintendent of. Machinist and Mrs. L. M. Hoyt re turned lust evening from a visit at Portland and Walla Walla. Attorney Koblnson arrived home JaBt evening from Spokane where he transacted business matters. Prof. J. Sout who is here today in specting the city schools, will visit Cove before returning to his present home at Dayton. Engineer Thornburg ha returned from Telocaset where he was engaged in the helper service, and Engineer G. M. Curtis, with Fireman Elliott have been transferred to that point. Mrs. IJradley left this morning for Evanston, "Wyoming, to join her hus band, who was formerly in the employ of the 0. R. & N. here. ' La Grande's hand has circulated no subscription' petition in two years and when they present a first class con cert tonight they are certainly en titled to a 00 cent ticket. Buy a tic ket and go, but if you can't Bp buy a ticket anyway. George Smith of Indiana is now employed at the Lv C. Smith garage as expert engine and motor repairer. He comes highly recommended for this work. He arrived last night and is already in his position. J. A. King the cigar maker yester day cut one or his fingers severely necessitating a .layoff. He has wired to Portland to get a cigar maker who will till the many rush orders as quickly as possible. Captain J; H. Alexander, special agent for the general land office han been transferred from Oregon to Idaho and passed th''"".' I,n Grande thi. morning to Boise, where his head quarters wil be. Mr. Alexander was at one time stationed here. Prof. J. O. Russel has returned to Weston after a canvasss of Union county for funds with which to help pay instructors in the normal there. Mrs. David Bay has gone to Mot Lake to remain for a period to take treatments for rheumatism. Tom Meyers arrived Saturday night from Nebraska to assume a position with the Island City Flouring mill. He is a brother of Don Meyers -now lo cated at Elgin. He was met here by Don Saturday night and over Sun day to become accustomed to Western climate. Fred N. Fox, the popular O. A. C. graduate, came in on the Elgin train today. Mr. Fox has just completed his labors as teacher at Imbler. He contemplates a visit to the Bend coun try, where his brother Lon Fox Is. in the very near future. Rev. Seeman of the Presbyterian church, who conducted services in Joseph yesterday,' returned today. Fireman and Mrs. A. P. Fleetwood will make their home iu La Grande. Mr. Fleetwood has lately been tran3 frred from the Pleasant Valley hel.itr service to. the Elgin run. '" SIc( lure Van Fleet Wedding. Miss Lucy .McClure and Arthur Van Fleet were quietly married at Baker j City yesterday,, by Rev. J. Neilson Ba.'ry of Enter City Episcopal church ! officiating, and they are now at home j at 1205 N. street. Only a few In timate friends witnessed the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McClure of this city and haB a large circle of friends, both here and at Baker City. The groom holds a position in. the postofflce and en joys the esteem of everyone. The Observer voices the expression of a host of friends In extending congratu lations. ' Rev. C. E. Deal yesterday united Clarice Cottrell and Eunice Bell in marriage at the home of. the bride's parents. 1201, Sth street. Several rel atives and near friends were present at the wedding. Both are well-known iii this city wher they have made their homes of late. They will live here. ' The current topic club will be en tertained Thursday afternoon by Mes dames H. R. Hanna and S. C.
