The cases were, to come up before the justice last Sat urday, but the prosecuting attorney has not made his preparations com plete for the hearing. It Is said that dozens of persons In the city have been Implicated by Dick ens and among them some very prom inent people. Funeral of Joel Crandall. The funeral of the late Joel Cran dall took place from the family resi lience this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Pas tor W. H. Gibson, of the First Baptist ihurch, officiating. Many sympathet ic friends tendered affectionate ex pressions of interest. Mr.- Crandall V.'JJ 010 .f t'tv ituiioi cu pium'rr whose ranks are rapidly thinning. He was born In the state of Vermont Jan uary 24, 1825. In 1863 he was united In marriage to Mins Martha Jane Ellis. To them were born four children, L. R. Crandall of Spokane, Mrs. Minna J. Blake of Baker City, George A. and T, Ellis Crandall of Spokane. Those, with the mother, survive to mourn their Ions. All were present at the funeral hour. The family migrated to the west In 1S7S and settled at Ladd Canyon, where they resided two years, then removed to the present home on Fourth and D streets. The deceased came to a peaceful death at 11:15 p. m.. February 24, surrounded by rela tives nud friends who rendered every service that love and skill could de vise. The Interment took place In the Odd Fellows' cemetery. Thus an honored citizen, kind father and useful man. after years of declin ing strenglh. yielded to the common foe, and has Joined the innumerable hosts who have foutrht life's battles and ntered upon the eternal reward. The house today agreed to a conference report on the postoffice appropriation bill. Representative Tawney introduced in the house a special rule, adopted by 140 to 60, providing for consideration of amendments to the sundry civil ap propriation bills. The amendments would prevent all appropriations for commissions, councils and boards cre ated by the president, and also pre vent any clerks being detailed from the government departments to duty in connection with such boards.
